Free Resources

IMSLP

IMSLP is a treasure trove of free sheet music, offering a vast library of classical pieces that can be downloaded and printed. This resource is invaluable for cellists looking to explore new repertoire without the financial burden of purchasing scores. Inside of Binging Art, once you join – you will have access to our own resources of scores and methods.

MuseScore

While not as comprehensive as paid software like Dorico, MuseScore is a free music notation program that allows you to create, edit, and share sheet music. It’s an excellent tool for musicians who want to compose or arrange music without breaking the bank.

Reaper

For those interested in music production, Reaper is a free digital audio workstation (DAW) that offers many features similar to paid alternatives like Ableton Live and Cubase. It’s a great starting point for musicians looking to explore recording and editing their music.

YouTube or Instagram

Use YouTube as a diary of your progress by uploading videos as unlisted. This allows you to track your improvement over time and reflect on your playing, which can be incredibly motivating and insightful.

Practice Diary

Once you join Binging Art as a student – you will join our Inner Circle and you will have your own Practice Habit Tracker. This helps maintain consistency and provides a clear overview of your progress. Otherwise, I suggest you make your own dairy and habit tracker in Notion!

Cello Tuner

Websites like Get-Tuned offer free online tuners, ensuring your cello is always in tune without needing to purchase a separate device. Additionally, tuner apps for smartphones or inside of your tablet provide convenience on the go.

Metronome Apps

Metronome apps are essential for maintaining tempo and improving timing. They are available for free on most smartphones and can be used in conjunction with your practice diary to enhance your playing. You can find them for free in your phone’s App Store.

Insight Timer App

A free app with guided meditations, music for focus, breathing tools and what I find most useful – a timer, to start and finish your daily meditation with a chosen sound of gong. Perfect to pair with practice breaks or pre-performance calm. Helps train attention and reduce anxiety.

Recommendations

60 Minute Visual Timer

While not free, this timer is incredibly useful for timing practice sessions without the distraction of screens. It can be purchased on platforms like Amazon.

Tablet for Scores

Using a tablet to access digital scores can be liberating, allowing you to explore a wide range of music without the clutter of paper.

Scores editions: Behrenreiter and Urtex

For those who prefer traditional paper scores, editions from Behrenreiter and Urtex are highly recommended for their quality and accuracy.

Tonebase

As a host on Tonebase, I support their mission. This is a great opportunity to access another angle to music lessons and cello resources.
